About the UMW Foundation
Established in 1975, the University of Mary Washington Foundation is a non-stock, nonprofit corporation in the Commonwealth of Virginia. From our inception the Foundation has worked closely with UMW and its leadership to support the mission and priorities of the University to provide opportunities for students, faculty, and staff.
Over the years, private gifts to the Foundation from our generous donors have supported scholarships, academic programs, student activities, campus buildings, campus enhancements, and special events for Mary Washington students, alumni, families, donors, and the community. Moving forward, the role of philanthropy has increasingly become central to Mary Washington’s progress as an institution.
Mary Washington is doubling down on their commitment to the Liberal Arts and our work at the Foundation is dedicated to supporting those aims through the enhancement of the student experience, supporting the programs and their faculty and staff, and protecting affordability through our commitment to generating philanthropic revenue in support of those aims – confident that the university’s size, experiential engagement between faculty and students inside and outside of the classroom prepares students for careers and for life is a winning strategy.
